Abstract

From the theatrical text to the real performance: teaching methods for a virtual or real staging in French as a foreign language classes

Using the studies of theatre scholars as a starting point, we underline the intrinsic relationship between the theatrical text and its possible representation, illustrating how the dramatic text carries a scenic evolution that manifests itself at different levels, such as, for example, the graphic organisation of the text, punctuation, alternation of dialogues and stage directions, etc.

Considering the potential for play contained in the dramatic text, we suggest uniting gesture with speech, speech with gesture, by proceeding in FLE classes with a virtual or even real transposition of the text into a performance. The proposed teaching methods can be adapted to different levels of knowledge of the language, in classes of different levels of higher education.
